'As musical heir to Ziggy Stardust, U2, and Tears for Fears, this German glam-rock band brings its androgynous yearnings to songs steeped in science fiction and bubble gum rock, and it already has a stadium-scale following in Europe. Its second album, "Humanoid," aims for arena singalongs here too. Oct. 6, Cherrytree/Interscope' - The New York Times, Sep. 14, 2009

No, I don't have an actual NY source

AWESOME!

And remember, The Ramones, The Sweet, and Cheap Trick were called Bubblegum Rock - there's no shame in that. In fact, some of the very best underground punk rock is self-proclaimed bubblegum.

At the bottom of the article, it says:

"A version of this article appeared in print on September 13, 2009, on page AR64 of the New York edition."

Does anyone have yesterday's edition of the NY Times? I wonder if the boys made it into the print edition?

Now there is an analogy I like.

alien < Humanoid

At least they labeled them as bubblegum rock and glam-rock instead of emo! cheers

I'm so glad they made into the NY Times! Smile

:squee:

I like that they were called glam, rather than emo, but who can really define Tokio Hotel, especially after the new album, comes out, there will be no words whatsoever to describe TH's music as a whole. :rub:

The mention of TFF, U2 and Ziggy Stardust in the same article with Tokio Hotel means that someone at NYT is finally starting to GET IT.

Dr. Frank of the punk band Mr. T Experience, aka acclaimed author Frank Portman, writes rather extensively on the aesthetic and artistic importance of "bubblegum" in the novel King Dork, as well as various essays. Anyone who is put off by the term should read Frank's work.

hehe, teh Tears fro Fears comparison is fun because my bf when he listened to the humanoid samples said that parts of it it reminded him of Tears for Fears.
